Matariki 2019

This year the Junior School celebrated Matariki together.  We thought about the things that make Matariki special and how it is celebrated.  Some of these things included - whanau time, kai, singing and dancing, playing games and being together.  Each classroom had a different station which reflected one of these things.
Kereru - Baking star biscuits
Toutouwai - Ancient games (knuckle bones, string games)
Kakapo - Making a feast
Piwakawaka - Song and dance
We finished the day with a feast altogether.
Have a look below at some of our fun from the day.

  1. Kia ora, we are Room 3 from Wesley Primary School. Your Matariki celebrations look so cool! At our school we had a hangi and made some pastel art about stars. What food did you have at your feast and how did you make the start cookies? Thanks for sharing you work with us.
